Description
The Ridgeback Advance 2 is the crossbar version of Ridgeback’s well-equipped hybrid e-bike, designed to handle commuting, weekend adventures and the kind of mixed-surface UK riding that doesn’t quite count as gravel and isn’t quite road. It pairs a Shimano STEPS mid-drive system with a sensible spec sheet aimed at long-term reliability rather than novelty.
Motor & battery
Power is provided by the Shimano STEPS DU-E6100 motor, delivering 250W and 60Nm of torque, controlled via the STEPS E5000 display and switch. A 504Wh Darfon battery is hidden inside the frame, supporting a quoted range of up to 205km when conditions and assistance modes are favourable. A 9-speed microSHIFT drivetrain with an 11-36T cassette gives plenty of useful gear range above and below the assistance cutoff.
The bike runs on 700c wheels with 50mm Schwalbe G-One Bite tyres, paired with an RST Volant 60mm-travel suspension fork, so towpaths, rough lanes and broken urban tarmac don’t faze it. Full metal mudguards, integrated lights powered by the STEPS system and an AtranVelo-compatible pannier rack come fitted, which means the Advance 2 is ready to be used straight away rather than requiring a list of accessories before it is genuinely useful.
