The Hunt Proven Carbon XC Dynamo wheelset answers that with a purpose-built setup that pairs a proven carbon XC rim with a SON 28 dynamo front hub, so your wheels themselves quietly become the power source while you ride.
Wheel construction
The rims share their DNA with Hunt’s Proven Race XC platform, which means a relatively wide internal profile suited to plump XC and bikepacking tyres, plus the kind of impact resistance that ultra-distance off-road events tend to demand. Hookless tubeless construction keeps things simple in the field if you do need to plug or boot a tyre at 3am in the middle of nowhere, and the carbon layup is tuned for repeated rough impacts rather than purely chasing the lowest possible weight.
Up front, the SON 28 dynamo is a recognised name in randonneuring and ultra-racing circles, generating clean, regulated current to drive a dynamo headlight or a USB conversion cable for charging electronics on the move. The rear hub uses Hunt’s RapidEngage freehub for fast pickup on technical, low-cadence sections where one missed pedal stroke can mean an unplanned dab.
